The beat goes on…we’ve seen a record number of hits to the blog as we’ve shared with you progressive looks for this years college football uniforms from sporting goods powerhouses Nike and Under Armour. Now all eyes turn to Adidas.
The University of Michigan will play Notre Dame this weekend on Saturday night (9-10-11) at 8:00pm EST on ESPN.
Both teams will be decked out in Adidas’ Under the Lights throwback jerseys to commemorate the first night game played in Michigan Stadium. I think the look can be best described as a fusion between current style jersey performance (tight fit compression) and retro numbering & lettering design. A nice blend of old and new.
Although Adidas plays in the same market space as Nike and UA, I don’t feel like these looks are in the same vein of “fashion forward” that we saw this past weekend. They are almost a step back into time, back into the playbook of Mitchell & Ness, which I find refreshing and not so “me too”.
Overall, I like the looks and being a fan of the color green, I really like the Irish Jerseys (although I won’t be rooting for them).
If I could have designed this, I would make one suggestion. I’d like to see a little more of the “under the lights” theme incorporated rather than just the Photoshop work on the photographs. Since the jerseys are being sold to fans, details like reflective accents in team colors or a glow in the dark element in the design would have delivered something out of the box and interesting for retail.
So what do you think?
